There‘s “some-sing” about Juliana
Meet Juliana Capuleto and the tune of
your day will change.
Juliana is a young, dynamic young woman with a passion and talent for singing and fashionably communicating to the world. At 22 years of age, Juliana packs a playful giggle. Her style is carefree but well put together. She carries her youthful, enthusiastic spirit well. But really and truly it is her tone of voice, her authenticity and her ability to uplift your spirit with her genuine honesty and positive outlook that invites you to want to listen and keep beat to the rhythm of what she is saying, even more.
Recently, on a bright sunny spring afternoon, I met with Juliana at Christie Pits Park in Toronto. A choice location that seemed absolutely ideal for an open natural chat. Afterall Christie Pits Park has a history of being a place where chapters of peoples lives from all over the world have bound together and unfolded over the years. Today, it is considered one of the great “community” parks. On any given Sunday the park is filled with people day dreaming about things to come, playing guitar and singing songs, strolling with loved ones, and just actively living life, cooking up chatter and relationship. Christie Pits Park, just the right place for Juliana and I to meet to shoot the breeze about her hopes and dreams as a person and as a singer. And so with a warm spring wind at our back we got started.
In speaking with Juliana, the one thing that struck me immediately was that she is ‘present’ in the moment. She is enthusiastic, and embracing and passionate about ‘now’, life now, as we live it, moment to moment. She wishes to be the best she can be. She has a voice. She has a talent and she is working diligently today so that she may greet opportunity tomorrow. She is hopeful and excited about tomorrow. She is truthful and reflective about yesterday but more than anything she seems committed to being who she is now, and that is an individual learning to be the best she can be by living true to her dream of becoming a fashionable singer.
Juliana gives the impression that she has soaked up a lot of emotion and experiences in her life thus far and she has made up her mind that she wishes to sing out to the world around her. And before long, the world may very well wish to sing along with Juliana because there is definitely something about Juliana that captures your attention and broadens your smile. She recently went to Cuba and filmed a music video. She is presently working on a new CD. In addition she is taking classes at the Royal Conservatory of Music and she is building her portfolio.
New to the city of Toronto, Juliana is a long way from her roots in Brazil. Our cold winters have taken a little getting used to and she does say she has had to refrain from hugging everyone she meets on the street as she sings and dances about town. Truth is, she loves it here and feels very welcomed and at ease. She has made friends and her mother too is now living here so she feels well supported.
As for her own success and the ways in which she strives to be successful? She fully acknowledges that it requires discipline and regiment and that every day of life she is learning new skills in order to improve. She is clear that she does not live a rock stars life. To keep fit and her voice polished she does not smoke or drink and she must be well rested and eat properly. She looks after herself so that she is mentally and physically in shape to work countless hours on a regular basis. She says her voice is her instrument and so she must treat it with special care. Her genuine candor about the steps she takes to ensure her wellbeing is refreshing because her words are so naturally true. It’s not all glitz and glamour.
No doubt about it, Juliana drives the point home. Yes, she reminds us that we all have something to Celebrate and we all have something to give back but in order to achieve our goals there is much hard work in-between. And that is not all. Achieving success is one thing but in her mind it is also about planning on how you will give back. Juliana speaks passionately about education and how absolutely important it is to her to someday return to Brazil and build a school for young children to learn and gain opportunity. She says she works hard everyday so that she can give back to those less fortunate. Amazing! One can only imagine what great things she will do in years to come !
Juliana came to Toronto with open heart and open mind. She arrived ready and willing to learn, work and make a positive connection. She is accomplishing what she has set out to do. She is a remarkable young woman and her voice is leading the way for others. No doubt about it, Juliana has a message to share with people and she sings it out loud, beautifully every day. We can all listen to and enjoy Julian’s message because it’s a message full of human emotion, inspiration and it is so simply lovely.
In wrapping up our interview, I reach out to Juliana and offer her a giant hug and she hugs right back. All at once I feel the warmth of her message. Juliana welcomes us all to keep beat to the positive rhythm in our daily lives. She encourages us to be the best we can be right now and to move forward with our dreams but also not to forget to give back to those coming up behind you and beside you.
